Our Story

So, I got to thinking today about how me and my fiance met, and then I got to thinking about how many people have asked me: So I think I'll share, you'll have to forgive me of my little dramatizes here and there, I want to have some fun with it.
I saw and loved. ~ Edward Gibbon ~ At least for him it was that way. Stubborn me took a little longer to be caught. But what can I say. . . I've always been able to run. . . but I've never been good at hiding. . . So, in the end I've always been caught. . . In this case I'm glad I was!!
We met in High School, no surprise right. I had met two of his sisters the previous year in Orchestra and band, This year we all had the same seminary class. I remember walking into that early morning class, on the first day of my Jr year and seeing him and his sisters. I don't know, But, I like to imagine that I said hi and they introduced us, though I'm not 100% sure that's really what happened. I've always been a sit in the back kind of girl, I learned early that normally you can escape attention if your in the second to last row. hehe. So, of course my sister and I sat there. They sat next to us. We talked, and got to know each other some, but for me he was just another cool guy. Any way nothing really went on, for me anyway, till the end of October.
My friends had convinced me to go to the Sadie's dance, the problem was it was girls choice and my first date. So, trying to figure out who to ask, I recalled that Thomas's birthday had just passed and he was now 16. An easy target! lol. To this day, I don't remember how I knew when his birthday was, he swears he didn't tell me, but I went about trying to figure out how to ask. See, in Utah we have this tradition that we go out of our way to ask some to a dance, and when I mean we go out of our way, I mean we find out cute, cheesy ways to ask them, such as trashing there bedroom, with balloons, streamers, etc. or other ideas, the cuter and cheesier the better. Well, since I didn't know where he lived and I was a little embarrassed to ask, I decided I'd send him on a scavenger hunt that he could do in seminary. I spent a night or two putting it together, and I put it into a cheesy poem. The scavenger hunt would take him through the hymns in the hymn book. Well, I made sure I got to school early and slipped it into his hymn book where the opening song was. I remember sitting there watching him go through it, trying to figure out what it was and who had sent it. I was thinking don't give it away, don't make eye contact, don't smile, don't laugh, just listen to the lesson. hehe, what a challenge.
Well to make a long story short he answered me back a week or so later with a scripture scavenger hunt that he slipped into my scripture bag. Well the dance went really well, and we had a blast, though we were closer as friends, everything went back to normal, though we did talk more.
I was involved in band and orchestra, though my Jr. year it was mostly band. We were planning a big trip to California, to take some classes and to perform. This trip was going to take place in March and it was February. So, everyone was trying to get there money in. I remember stressing out because asking my parents for such a big amount, in my eyes wasn't fair, but I hadn't been able to come up with the money, and I really wanted to go, plus my parents kept telling me that I needed to go, it would be a fun and good experience. At the same time Tom and I had been talking more, we had happened to end up in the same group, though with different dates, for the Sweetheart dance. My date spent most of the time flirty with someone else though he did dance with me as well. Thomas spent some of the time talking and flirting with me. On the dance floor, he mixed up the couples so everyone got to dance with everyone else, but in the end I always seemed to end up in his arms. It wasn't till later that night, when I was home in bed, looking back over the night, that I began to see that I had an admirer.
We had traded msn messenger accounts and began talking nightly online. One night, I believe it was a day or two before we were going to leave for Cali, my parents and I had gotten into a fight, because I had just found out how much they were going to give us as spending money. I didn't want that much, especially since I knew there were holidays and birthdays just around the corner. I got on to the computer trying to get my mind of it all, when tom got on. He said Hi, and I said Hi back. He then asked me what was wrong, and not thinking I told him, he listened or read and just let me vent for a few. He then told me that he understood my frustrations, but he also told me to look at it from my parents view, they just wanted us to have fun and not to worry about all the extra stress. We talked for well over an hour. It was getting late so we said our good byes and he asked me if I'd mind if he called me while I was in Cali. I told him I would love that and he said good. He then said I love you. I had to take a double take, and I thought, I wrote I love you, and sent it. I couldn't believe it. He called me every morning and evening while I was in Cali, and at least one other time during the day. We talked about all kinds of things and once or twice our conversations carried on longer then imagined. I guess you can say that it took off from there and will go on for eternity!!!
